Silver medal Hobart Fine Foods Awards. A low tannin black tea with a sweet, distinctive roasted nut aroma and flavour with very little astringency. Produced in the worlds most southern tea fields in Allens Rivulet, a quite valley in the Mount Wellington foothills just south of Hobart. We have been growing and marketing green tea for over 20 years and have just started making black and oolong style teas as well. Our Huon Black uses freshly harvest, succulent shoot tips which are harvested and allowed to wither to develop flavour for a few days. The leaves are then crushed by hand to allow the oxidation of the polyphenols, making the tea a deep red brown colour. The tea is then roasted at 100°C till dry and this causes the tea to develop a rich caramelized aroma and flavour that is reminiscent of roasted nuts. The natural sweetness of the tea and the low astringency means that Huon Black can be drunk by itself, without the need for sugar or milk. Taking a few minutes to brew and savour a cup of Huon Black Tea provides a valuable mini-break, leaving you refreshed, refocused and able to tackle the task at hand.
Huon Black tea is grown in Tasmania without the use of pesticides and using solar energy for irrigation and processing. This Tasmanian fair trade tea is ethically produced under all Australian standards and laws.
